i even dunno y they celebrate it..me too wanna knw ..will find it out abt it after done with eggjams...hmmm mom read in one article that its celebrated as ppl beg for choco on this day ....which i found :S

   R u serious Nidhi?? Why would ppl beg for chocolate  Begging for chocolate is fine but why dress up as ghosts

ya, its not ppl who beg for chocolates, its only kids who go to every body house and ask for candies , and on that day ppl from each house give them candies.

Its very much similar to Lohri festival in North India , when kids who go to every body's house and beg for sweets, money and candies etc. And its similar to a celebration in India called " SARADH" which comes before Navtratas. And on Saradhs in India, we give sweets, money and food to religious and poor people in the memory of our dead ancestors, so our ancestors should rest in peace always.

Thanks for the article Mohini.. So, even in America, ppl are superstitious ;) Nice way to claim for a holiday

ya, we human beings celebrate so many festivals for ourselves , so at least, we should celebrate one festival for ghosts too =)) And Ofcourse, nature of human beings don;t change, no matter they live in which country.
No people had lived in the Americas before the arrival of Indians. Indian people were the first one who started to live in America. So some of American customs and festivals are related to India too.

And American Indians, sometimes called Native Americans, are descendants of the first people to live in the Americas. They had been living there for thousands of years before any Europeans arrived.
