My favourite Jagjit work is his early work... The 1980 Jagjit-Chitra album A Milestone, written by Qateel Shifai, remains my all-time chosen one. Here Jagjit is excellent on 'Sadma To Hai Mujhe Bhi', 'Pareshan Raat' and 'Yeh Mojeza Bhi Mohabbat'. Chitra excels on the female version of 'Pareshan Raat' , besides 'Angdai par angdai' and 'Dil ko gham-e-hayat'. Plus some excellent duets between the two. Among his film songs, besides there regular ones, there's an under-rated song from the film 'Leela' called 'Jaag ke kaati sari raina', which is simply awesome
I too like Jagjit Singh of the 80s. I feel his later albums lack good poetry. I stopped following JS after “Visions” which was still good. Milestone is my fav too. I also recommend this classic bahot dinon ki baat hai fiza ko yaad bhi nahin from his album Desires(I think). And his version of Main khayal hoon kisi aur ka, mujhe sochta koi aur hai.. a brilliant ghazal brilliantly presented by JS, I think it is from the album he released just after his son died… Besides film songs, and the popular must-have ghazals like Kal chaudvi ki raat thi, Babul mora, Sarakti jaaye, Kagaz ki kashti etc, there are so many gems that get missed when we talk about JS.
Another not very popular ghazal that tops my playlist …
I stopped following JS in the early/mid 90s.
@Mohini, mai ni mai also reminds me of another awesome punjabi ghazal by JS raat gayi kar taara taara.. and the slow ghamaan di raat lammi ye Koi yeh kaise baataye is lesser known song from Arth… but imho, it is so much more superior to the jhuki jhuki si nazar in terms of poetry.
