Too bad that i have to cut it :)

Anyways one other part that was way over the top was the wedding part ... the groom trying to run away during the kashi yaatra ... i wonder if CB really tried that during his wedding

agree totally..it was way off....if CB really did some such thing during his wedding,i can only pity his FIL and laugh at his (lack of)IQ ;)

=)) =)) =)) =)) =))

There were actually many plots in the story which was too too dramatic... But his writing style is something which I enjoy.. They are funny though they are not realistic in nature...

People like me or even Anita can easily connect to this story very well because we are aware of both the sides.. Ya, he could have focused more on Punjabi's show off character... Though he did, it was not sufficient enuf to balance both the sides... He was critical towards South Indians but less critical towards the North... He never focused on Ananya's part as well, like what she was going through as he was busy explaining his own internal emotions... But what I liked was - He showed Ananya's character to be much more stronger than him...

Found this interesting article...so thought of sharing....

Fetish for books
It was Sunday morning and I found an old book while cleaning my house. It was my grandpa's favourite; after browsing through the pages I found it very interesting and with many new words. That was the day I took an oath that everyday I would read at least two pages from any book.

Engaging the reader

I think reading a book can take you to unknown heights. A book is a collection of beautiful words strung into meaningful sentences. A writer needs to have complete knowledge about the subject to write a book. A writer must be able to answer all the questions that arise in the reader's mind and there lies the success of the book. Many say that practical knowledge is always better than bookish knowledge. But imagine a world without books! A book is always a good friend. The level of interest that a book evokes, however, lies in the style of writing. The habit of reading is a stress-removing factor. It must be inculcated in children at an early stage so that they can select books of their own taste.

Start afresh

A book must have an introduction with interesting lines and must have a dramatic end. This would push a reader to buy a new book by the author he or she has already read. Be it any subject; science, history, philosophy, every book will have its own new words, thoughts and ideas poured in by the contributors. April 23 was WORLD BOOK DAY. Why not we spend our pocket money on books? A different way of shopping isn't it?

Have been on quite a reading spree of late. Some of the newer releases include

1) A Better India, A Better World - NR Narayana Murthy - Collection of the business leader's speeches. Essential reading for those who follow the Indian economy and corporate scenario
2) And Thereby Hangs A Tale - Jeffrey Archer - His latest collection of short stores... Some good ones, some very predictable ones
3) Theodore Boone - John Grisham - A legal thriller aimed at teenage audiences. Racy reading - even for adults, but tame ending. Good for those who want to know the basics of law - as Grisham explains legal terms in detail, keeping his young audience in mind
4) Ford County Stories - John Grisham - His first attempt at short stories. The tales are too American... didn't find them really exciting, barring two stories
5) Musicophilia - Oliver Sacks - Heavy reading, but very interesting, explaining the relation between music and the human brain. Things like music therapy, music and schizophrenia etc. However, the author uses only western classical music examples, so those who don't follow western classical may not appreciate it in its entirety. Plus, too much psychiatric jargon (needed Wikipedia regularly). I loved the book, though

Am currently two-thirds through 'Dork - The Incredible Advetures of Robin 'Einstein' Varghese' by Sidin Vadukut. A satire on MBA culture and how the Indian corporate sector functions. The writer tends to get Chetan Bhagat-ish at times, but overall enjoybale.

Same here Naren Bhai. Last one month I have been sitting idle with full bed rest and so got to read some really good books. Won't say all to be good, yes interesting for sure.

One book I found by chance was "The Unknown Life of Jesus Christ". Its by Nicholas Notovitch, a travel diary cum details of what he discovered in one of the manuscripts in Tibet. The book is a controversial one. He tells about Jesus's life between the yrs 13 and 29, which he supposedly spent in the Himalayan belt. This life time is absent from the Bible.

The other being "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini. After Kite Runner's this was his next book again set in Afghanistan. Its a story about love hope and how person discovers his/er inner strength. Its a story of two women and how both get bonded due to circumstances even though none have any blood relation.

The third book is again a controversial one. The Hindus: An Alternative History by Wendy Doniger. Though the author is a prof of Hinduism but she did not study the scriptures properly before venturing into this particular book. Lot many things in the book, especially about our caste system and all is too true. She makes lot of valid points. But there are too many portions where she has tried to project Ramayana as understood by her, very wrongly. She does not collaborate her findings from our Veds and Puraans. Instead her proofs have been given on the basis of different old caves sculptures especially the Ajanta Eloras.

Only Time Will Tell by Jeffrey Archer

Good piece of work from Jeffrey Archer. Amazing way of telling a story through the passage of time through the different protagonists. It has the classic end notes of Archer at the close of a chapter which reminds us of his style. There is seamless movement from first person narrative to the third person and consistent thread in the story through the characters. But true, it does get repetitive at times since its the same story being told from a different view points. Those who have read Kane and Abel and Sons of Fortune, will find this book have a similar storyline in the beginning. Yet, the book is an excellent page turner with a superb end which makes us long for whats going to happen in the next part.

I am really waiting for the next one. This is the first book of a five book series "The Clifton Chronicles". Big venture by Jeffrey and hoping he can keep the readers interested with better plots as he goes along.

Ya Bhaskar. I read the book too. Excellent page turner, though I found a couple of parts predictable and repetitive, and probably not in the same class as Kane and Abel or First Among Equals (which were simply classics). But lots of surprises at the end. Looking forward to the sequels
