On a recent visit to Planet M in Ludhiana, I found a double CD called 'Lajwaab: Tribute to Mehdi Hassan', which contains renditions of the legend's songs by a host of artistes, including Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali, Pankaj Udhas, Abida Parveen, Anup Jalota, Hariharan, Suresh Wadkar and Jaspinder Narula. It's a 2009 compilation, released by T-Series, where each singer says a few words in dedication before the songs. Strangely, I had never known such a compilation existed, as I don't remember any kind of media coverage, advertisement or review. Nor had I seen it in some of the bigger stores in Mumbai, Delhi or Hyderabad, which I have visited this year. Even after I bought it, I could see there's barely any information on the Net, but for a few sites here or there. As far as music marketing is concerned, this seemed like one big wasted effort - which is sad because some of the greatest ghazal singers of both have recorded their contributions. For the information of Mehdi Hassan fans, it's a collector's item, even though its doesn't comtain any of the all-time classics like 'Ranjish Hi Sahi', 'Zaindagi Mein To Sabhi', 'Gulon Mein Rang Bhare', 'Patta Patta', 'Bhooli Bisri Chand Umeedein' etc etc. Instead, it is filled mainly with songs from the album 'Kehna Usey' and a few from 'Sada-e-ishq', besides some lesser known songs. Interestingly, both the albums mentioned have been written by poet Farhat Shahzad, but his name doesn't find a mention on the CD cover. Some of the songs rendered are -
Yun To Jaate Hue - Jagjit Singh Komplien phir phoot aaye - Humera Channa Kya toota hai andar andar and Faisla Unko Bhool Jaane Ka - Hariharan Dekhna unka kanakhiyon se - Suresh wadkar (a wonderful rendition) Dasht-e-veeraan hoon - Ghulam Ali Jab Ghata Koi and Tumhare saath bhi tanha hoon _ Jaspinder Narula Tanha Tanha - Kamraan Hassan Ek Bas Tu Hi Nahin and Khuli Jo Aankh - Abida Parveen

Thanks Naren Bhai for the info. I am surely going to get the CD pack.
Those all time classics should have been covered by them. They were his best ones.
I have a double CD pack of the Ghazal King which carries his ghazals sung with classical touch. Let me try to rip the songs and upload for all. Its a very old album. I got it maybe 10-12 years back. Its a wonderful collection too, not just for the ghazal lovers but others too.

Thought of sharing these this track of Mehdi Hasssanji. Its the famous ghazal Ranjish Hi Sahi sung by the maestro in a different style than the film version. A rare performance by him. The song has been divided into two parts, still I think bit of it is missing.
