Have been hearing some good young Hindustani classical vocal musicians recently. Attended a concert of vocalist Mahendra Toke (followed by santoor player Satish Vyas) in Mumbai last week. A few weeks ago, I heard vocalists Jayateerth Mevundi and Manjari Asanare-Kelkar at a concert in Mumbai. All the performances vindicated my opinion that there's so much talent in the younger generation.
The media keeps highlighting the star children and star nephews like Rahul Sharma, Rakesh Chaurasia, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan, Anoushka Shankar etc. Some of them are in fact really good, and also very innovative. But there are a lot of other and not that well-known youngsters who are very promising, and are sure to do well as the future generation of Hindustani classical musicians in India. Some of them are

Vocals - Jayateerth Mevundi, Manjari Asanare-Kelkar, Sawani Shende, Meeta Pandit, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Manjari Alegaonkar, Mahendra Toke, Kaivalya Kumar
Sitar - Niladri Kumar, Bijoyaditya Mukherjee, Dhimant Verman
Tabla - Mukundraj Deo, Aditya Kalyanpur, Amit Choubey
There are more of course. If they happen to perform in the vicinity, do check them out

Oh thanks a lot for this thread.. I have recently not kept a check on the new talent when it comes to Hindustani.. Anoushka Shankar is simply awesome.. Heard she is also launching into movies along with Rahul Bose.. And I so agree with you regarding the hype.. You don't simply get to listen to the pure talent because of this hype..
